The Bad News first
Over the last few weeks, the wine world has experienced the loss of two of its titans.
- Nicolas Feuillatte created his brand in Reims in 1976 and it has been
one of the leading champagnes ever since. Not just a winemaker, this entrepreneur was a coffee trader here in the United States and the permanent delegate to Côte D’Ivoire. He passed away August 10 at the age of 88.
Baroness Phillipe de Rothschild, upon the death of her father 1988, inherited three massive wineries in some of France’s most prestigious regions. Between then and now, she built the brand into a $250 million empire; a highlight being the collaboration with Robert Mondavi to create Opus One. She passed away at the age of 80 at her chateau in the Bordeaux region August 23.
