The Stump Jump Shiraz
A fantastic shiraz from the Mclaren Vale, a top destination for Shiraz in the World. The Stump Jum was ranked among the Top 100 Wines of 2009 by Wine Spectator. They write that it is "ripe and open-textured, this is impressive for the way it packs in the cherry, blackberry and raspberry flavors and doesn't take the foot off the gas pedal until the mineral-inflected finish has played through."
This wine carries a modest price, yet comes with a ton of delicious fruit flavors, making it a most enjoyable and remarkable Shiraz for under $13.
Luzon "Luzon" Finca Jumilla 2008Luzon Luzon Finca received 1st place in the top 100 Best Buy Wines by Wine Enthusiast in 2008.
Luzon is cherry red in the glass, with magenta highlights right at the edge of the glass.
On the palate, the mid-palate comes into prominence, with a bold, full stone-cherry fruit, somewhat lush with an alcoholic lift. Acids and light tannins mold out the experience, bringing just a light pucker to the cheeks. This can be left to age for a couple more years.
Robert Parker awarded 88 points to Luzon Luzon Jumilla in 2006 and wrote, "The 2005 Luzon is a blend of 65% Mourvedre and 35% Syrah that exhibits a dark ruby/purple color in addition to loads of blackberry and cassis fruit, good ripeness and richness, decent acidity, and a freshness undoubtedly due to the vineyards’ lofty altitudes of 2,000-2,300 feet. Consume it over the next several years"
