Scotch, Whiskey, Bourbon, & Rye

Bourbon-Whiskey, Scotch Whisky, Whiskey, & Rye

Wine may be a major focus of our inventory and beer may be a love through and through, but occupying the third largest section of space within our shop is the Scotch, Bourbon, Whiskey section.  Why so much focus on this type of spirit, you may ask? Well!  The simple complexities of the very spirit itself merits the fullest representation we could possibly afford to this most noble of liquors.

bourbonbarrels     Just what is it that defines a whiskey as a ‘whiskey’, ‘whisky’, ‘bourbon’, etc?  No one knows for sure.  The many conventions out there never seem to agree on what makes each one different; each distillery has its own recipe, water source, distillation process, you name it.  Legends and American folklore abound with tales of just who was responsible for the spirit we have today – we don’t really ascribe to any of it.  If the stuff tastes good, we say drink it (with moderation)!

Whiskey-barrel-being-tested     With too many types and styles out there to list, pages quickly reach unmanageable states.  As with wine, we stock many of the core brands for the more basic uses.  We also carry the same respectable single-barrels, limited editions, and rare releases most other shops have in their collection.  What sets Ken&Norm’s apart from every other place is our knowledge of the product and dedication to excellent guest experiences.  Many of our staff members have a good working knowledge of our Scotches, Boubons, and Whisk(e)ys. Ask us anything – if we’re unsure, we can look it up together.

Mr. Sinatra was first introduced to the product in the 1940s

sinatra-select-work-01and he fell in love with it instantly.  He always had a supply on hand.  Upon his death, one of Frank’s wishes was to be buried with a flask of JD.  Today, this Limited edition JD Frank Sinatra Select is finding a place with the discerning  whiskey drinker and we have one bottle waiting for adoption.

Scotch & Single Malts

Unlike anything else in the world of spirits, Scotch, (whisky from Scotland), gets truly better with age.  The longer the cask sits, the more precious the liquid within; once it is bottled, the aging stops.  Lets group these by age, youngest first; once in an unannounced while, Jason, your tasting host will open one for sampling, so check our blog for the advanced albeit short notice.  If you don’t see one listed here you enjoy, fear not – we carry the same core library as other stores, just choose to highlight the more rare and special.
